ACTION OPPORTUNITIES

We’ll update this page regularly as new opportunities arise.  So check back periodically.

•  Know or meet anyone who is homeless?  Let them know Nyer Urness House is accepting applications for new residents.  The only requirement is that the person is homeless.   Apply at the NUH front desk, 1753 NW 56th St.

•  The BALLARD FOOD BANK is seeking volunteers to help with sorting of food donations, food recovery, setting up and distribution.   They’ve got morning and evening hours.  If interested, contact Peggy Bailey at the Food Bank.

•  The STONE SOUP GROUP cooks and serves warm meals under the Ballard Bridge on Sundays.  Always looking for volunteers.  Contact Graham if interested.

•  Volunteer with the United Way’s Seattle Stand Down on September 11th, at Seattle Central Community College.  This great event supports at-risk and homeless veterans by providing resources and services such as employment resources, housing services, legal advice, medical and dental assistance, food, and other social and human services.  There are many different ways to volunteer and help this great event.

•  Spend a two-hour shift at the Sustainable Ballard Festival September 29th tabling at the Citizen Activation Station - - register people to vote and hand out information about Nyer Urness House and about various services available to homeless people in Ballard.  For more information contact Orna.

The Ballard Community Taskforce on Homelessness and Hunger can use more administrative and planning help to keep it going and growing.  We can use your help!  If you can help with database maintenance, website maintenance or design, the Facebook page, outreach to new members, planning meetings, or creating meeting agendas, please contact Orna.  Thank you.

•  If you’re interested in working on voter registration and engagement, the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance has great resources and can help design a plan of action that will suit your needs and availability.
