The purpose of the Scofflaw Mitigation Project is to lessen the impact of Seattle's Scofflaw Ordinance on people who rely on their vehicles for shelter and safety.

To that end a Scofflaw Mitigation Fund has been setup by the Interfaith Task Force on Homelessness (ITFH) and donations solicited to assist vehicle residents who are low income and unable to pay their outstanding parking tickets. The fund is administered by St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Bellevue which serves as the fiscal agent for the ITFH.

This project is a coordinated effort between the ITFH, Seattle Municipal Court (SMC), Seattle Councilmember Mike O'Brien's Office, Seattle Human Services Department (HSD), Seattle Parking Enforcement, and volunteer advocates.

If you are low income, living in your vehicle, and in danger of being boot/towed:

the numbers to call for assistance are:    425-442-5418    206-782-0788

Actions taken to date are:

  • Mitigation Fund setup (COMPLETED)
  • Flyers distributed widely throughout the City of Seattle (PDF)
  • Calls received and logistical assistance provided: 50  (as of 12-3-2012)
  • Financial assistance provided to 12 citizens (as of 12-3-2012)
